Implementing SQF Systems – Packaging, Edition 10Feb 1–4 · $795
Enroll NowImplementing SQF Systems is the Safe Quality Food Institute's (SQFI) training course on how to build, document and maintain a food safety management system that meets the SQF Food Safety Code. This class teaches it for the SQF Food Safety Code: Manufacture of Food Sector Packaging, Edition 10 (called Manufacture of Food Packaging in Edition 9), the Code for sites that make and store packaging used in the food sector. Kiwa ASI is an SQFI Licensed Training Center and teaches it live on Zoom: 16 contact hours over four half-day sessions, led by an SQFI Certified Trainer.
The course works through both audited parts of the packaging Code, the Module 2 system elements and Module 13, Good Manufacturing for Production of Food Sector Packaging, plus the Part A certification process. The course trains your people; it doesn't certify your site. SQF certification comes only from an audit by an SQFI-licensed certification body. See SQF certification.
SQFI released the Edition 10 Codes in March 2026 and anticipates that certification audits to Edition 10 will begin on January 2, 2027. SQFI notes the date depends on GFSI benchmarking and could move later. Until then, sites are audited to Edition 9.
Four half-day sessions, 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM Central Time, so you don't lose full days away from your plant.
Live and instructor-led. Ask about your own materials, processes and records as you go.
Taught to the packaging Code (food sector category 27) and its Module 13 Good Manufacturing Practices.
A Kiwa ASI certificate for your training records, as evidence of SQF Code training at your audits.
Two live online classes are scheduled for 2027: Monday–Thursday, February 1–4, 2027 and Tuesday–Friday, July 20–23, 2027, 8:30 AM–12:30 PM CT each day. The course is $795 per seat. SQFI applies the Manufacture of Food Sector Packaging Code to food sector category (FSC) 27: the manufacture and on-site storage of food sector packaging materials. FSC 27 also includes items used in food manufacturing or foodservice facilities, such as paper towels, napkins, disposable food containers, straws and stirrers. SQFI's product examples:
Food-grade flexible films and flexible pouches.
Food-grade paperboard-based containers.
Food-grade metal containers and glass containers.
PET, polystyrene and other plastic and foam containers.
Intermediate bulk containers, drums, barrels and smaller containers.
Paper towels, napkins, disposable food containers, straws and stirrers.

Already an SQF Practitioner? If you only need what changed from Edition 9, the Edition 10 SQF Conversion Course is a shorter update.
Four half-day sessions, 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM Central Time, built around the Manufacture of Food Sector Packaging Code, Edition 10. Following SQFI's course objectives, you'll align your existing programs with the Code, see how the SQF programs connect in a system supported by a culture of food safety, and outline the actions your site needs next.
How the SQF program and the Edition 10 Codes are structured, GFSI benchmarking, food sector category 27, and how to set your site's scope of certification.
The management system backbone every packaging site is audited against:
The GMPs your auditor will check on the plant floor, including the core clauses for cleaning and sanitation and for foreign matter prevention:
Part A of the Code: registering with SQFI, selecting a certification body, preparing for the desk audit and on-site audit, Edition 10's updated scoring and core clauses, and what happens after certification. Leave with an action plan for your site.
Post-training survey results from recent cohorts of Kiwa ASI's general Implementing SQF Systems class, taught by the same SQFI Certified Trainer. The packaging class is new for 2027.
The live format made all the difference, I was able to get real answers about applying the SQF Code to our specific facility and processes.
The hands-on approach to building our SQF system documentation was incredibly valuable. Having a live expert walk through each module made complex requirements feel manageable.
The interactive sessions were excellent. Hearing from other participants about their challenges and how the SQF system applies across different facility types was eye-opening.

The packaging Code sets the requirements. This course is the most practical way to build the working knowledge of the Code that it calls for.
The packaging Code requires a primary and a substitute SQF Practitioner who are employed at the site, have successfully completed a HACCP-based training course, are competent to implement and maintain the site's food safety plans, and oversee the SQF System through an understanding of the SQF Code for the site's scope.
Required for the practitioner, and Implementing SQF Systems doesn't replace it. Kiwa ASI teaches live, IHA-accredited HACCP certification training you can take before or after this course.
Not mandatory, but SQFI strongly recommends it for new practitioners. It's the most practical way to build, and document, a working knowledge of the Code.
SQFI offers online Implementing SQF Systems exams. Its exam list shows Manufacturing and Primary Production versions, none specific to packaging. Passing one earns an SQFI certificate of attainment.
SQFI's voluntary credential accepts either the Implementing SQF Systems course or the exam as its Code-knowledge prerequisite, plus HACCP training and food safety management experience.
Harmeet brings nearly two decades of food safety consulting and training experience to every class. She has worked with companies ranging from small startups to multinational corporations, helping them navigate regulatory compliance, quality systems and audit readiness.

It's the Safe Quality Food Institute's (SQFI) Implementing SQF Systems course, taught for the SQF Food Safety Code: Manufacture of Food Sector Packaging, Edition 10. It covers how to build, document and maintain an SQF System at a packaging site. Kiwa ASI is an SQFI Licensed Training Center and teaches it live on Zoom: 16 contact hours over four half-day sessions, led by an SQFI Certified Trainer.
The SQF Food Safety Code: Manufacture of Food Sector Packaging, Edition 10. In Edition 9 it was called Manufacture of Food Packaging. It applies to food sector category (FSC) 27, the manufacture and on-site storage of food sector packaging materials. The audited requirements are Module 2, System Elements, and Module 13, Good Manufacturing for Production of Food Sector Packaging.
SQFI's examples include flexible films and pouches, paperboard-based containers, metal and glass containers, plastic and foam containers (PET, polystyrene and others), IBC totes, drums, barrels and smaller containers, and single-use foodservice products such as paper towels, napkins, disposable food containers, straws and stirrers. Yes. It's live and instructor-led on Zoom, so you can ask your SQFI Certified Trainer about your own materials, processes and records and hear from other participants in real time.
SQFI released the Edition 10 Codes in March 2026 and anticipates that certification audits to Edition 10 will begin on January 2, 2027. SQFI notes the date depends on GFSI benchmarking and could move later. Sites audited before Edition 10 takes effect are still audited to Edition 9, so now is the time to update your documents and programs.
Not strictly. The packaging Code requires the primary and substitute SQF Practitioners to be employed at the site, to have successfully completed a HACCP-based training course, to be competent to implement and maintain the site's food safety plans, and to understand the SQF Code for the site's scope. SQFI says the Implementing SQF Systems course is not mandatory but is strongly recommended for new practitioners. It is the most practical way to build, and document, that working knowledge of the Code.
Yes, if you will serve as the SQF Practitioner. The SQF Code requires the practitioner to have completed a HACCP training course, and Implementing SQF Systems does not replace it. Kiwa ASI also offers live, IHA-accredited HACCP certification training that you can take before or after this course.
Participants who complete the course receive a Kiwa ASI Certificate of Completion, which you can keep in your training records as documented evidence of SQF Code training for your audits.
SQFI offers online Implementing SQF Systems exams. Its exam list shows Manufacturing and Primary Production versions, none specific to packaging. Passing one earns an SQFI certificate of attainment. SQFI accepts either the Implementing SQF Systems course or the exam as the SQF Code knowledge prerequisite for its voluntary Certified SQF Practitioner credential, which also requires HACCP training and food safety management experience.
Both teach SQFI's Implementing SQF Systems course. This class is taught for the Manufacture of Food Sector Packaging Code, so the Good Manufacturing Practices it covers are Module 13's requirements for packaging production. If your site isn't in the packaging category, see our general Implementing SQF Systems class.
No. The course trains your people; it does not certify your site. A facility earns SQF certification only after a successful audit by an SQFI-licensed certification body.
