ASI Food Safety specializes in pet food safety audits. We strive to not only keep the humans in our families safe but the animals as well.
Pet food, like human food, can vary with ingredients and texture. We understand the importance of cross contamination and allergens when it comes to your pet's food safety audit.
ASI Food Safety is proud to offer our clients an audit for pet food and pet feed safety. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates canned cat food, bags of dog food, and boxes of dog treats or snacks. The FDA’s regulation of pet food is similar to that for other animal foods. The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) requires that all animal foods, like human foods, be safe to eat, produced under sanitary conditions, contain no harmful substances, and be truthfully labeled. In addition, canned pet foods must be processed in conformance with the low acid canned food regulations. The FFDCA defines food as "articles used for food or drink for man or other animals..." Therefore, any article that is intended to be used as an animal feed ingredient, to become part of an ingredient or feed, or added to an animal's drinking water is considered a "food" and thus, is subject to regulation. Just like for human food manufacturing, many of the good manufacturing practices are the same for pet food and pet feed. When you have a GMP level audit for pet food pet feed, a HACCP program is the foundation, as well as GMP’s and sanitation. Compliance to the Food Safety Modernization Act, FSMA, will have final ruling in August 2015. Be prepared for the upcoming changes, schedule your pet food pet feed audit today.
