Good Agricultural Practices
Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs)
are necessary to ensure a safe food supply. Many recalls have been based
on poor practices that result in contaminated or adulterated food products.
The ASI consultant will go out into the field and farms, observing harvest
and storage practices. A grade is given based on compliance in several
categories: management and organization, water purity and treatments,
soil amendments, building maintenance, personnel, sanitary facilities,
field sanitation, packing shed sanitation, cleansers and sanitizers and
pest control. This audit is necessary for achieving food safety from the
startright there at the grower's farm.
