SQF

The SQF Institute is a division established by the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) to manage the SQF Program.  An FMI Advisory Board provides overall policy advice, guidance, and direction to the SQF Institute.

SQF has two codes: SQF 1000 and SQF 2000.  SQF 1000is based on the Principles of HACCP where as SQF 2000 is based on the complete HACCP system. The SQF 1000 Code is for primary producers and the SQF 2000 Code is for the manufacturing and distribution sectors.

Within both codes are three levels of certification. Each level is designed to indicate the stage of development of the producer’s food safety and quality management system.  The standard also allows every supplier, regardless of size, to be eligible for certification.

Certification isn’t as simple as calling and scheduling an audit. Company management must make a commitment and then become HACCP educated. Companies must also develop processes, provide documentation, and implement said processes.  With all in place, certification is possible.

ASI auditors are ready and trained to perform SQF audits.
